Meet Amy DeVries
A Message from Amy
Hello! I’m Amy DeVries. I'd love to be your choice for EVSC school board trustee on November 5.
Here’s a little bit about me.
My husband, John, and I have been married for nearly 25 years. We have three adult children, one grandchild, two dogs and a cat! My daughter and I also work with the Vanderburgh Humane Society’s trap/spay/neuter program as “community cat managers” to help protect our neighborhood cats, who are also like family. John and I are members of Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church and One Life West, where John’s in the praise band and I volunteer in the nursery.

I'm the Development & Communications Coordinator for the Evansville office of Pro Bono Indiana, a nonprofit that provides free civil legal services for people who normally couldn't afford them.
In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering for local nonprofits, including Aurora and St Vincent Early Learning Center. And I'm an avid gardener. Nothing brings me more joy than sharing the food I grow with family, neighbors and nonprofits.
When I volunteer at St. Vincent Early Learning Center, I'm reminded of the unique needs many kids have in our community. John and I understand what it takes to address these needs. We raised two children with special needs who grew up to be thriving adults. But it wasn't easy. Raising them took considerable advocacy on our part, along with extra support from teachers, school staff and local service providers.
Unfortunately not every kid has access to such a great support system. Many parents are lost when it comes to navigating how things work within EVSC. They don't feel like they're being heard or sometimes even acknowledged. I've heard so many frustrating stories from heartbroken families. Way too many! This must change.
We need our children to get the extra attention they need to grow up to be happy, healthy adults. They deserve it. And I believe we’re responsible for making it happen for them.
That’s why I want to be your next school board trustee. I'm willing to be a voice for ALL children, parents and teachers. I'll tell your stories, advocate for you, and lend a hand whenever and wherever I'm needed.
I’d appreciate your vote on November 5.
“I’m voting for Amy DeVries because of her dedication to improving education for every EVSC student and her strong commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment within the EVSC. She's a tireless warrior for social justice, standing up to the status quo and never failing as an advocate for families and teachers in Vanderburgh County schools.”

Amy's Proven Expertise
As a community organizer for nearly a decade, Amy helped drive considerable change within Evansville. Using a nonprofit’s proven process, Amy and a group of like-minded individuals sought effective solutions to some of our city’s biggest problems. They did so by listening to those most impacted, thoroughly researching the problems, and then recruiting and empowering people to create practical solutions. They then held stakeholders accountable until the solutions were implemented.
Amy's leadership helped drive these important changes in our community:
Equipped local first responders with Narcan, an overdose reversal medication that has saved many local lives.
Increased funding into the Affordable Housing Trust Fund to assist with the purchase or development of affordable housing.
Expanded Aurora's re-entry program to help individuals avoid homelessness and thrive after incarceration.
Created a jail diversion plan to provide proper care to those with mental health issues, while reducing jail overcrowding.
Increased access to much-needed dental care for low-income or uninsured residents.
Created a Mental Health Commission and Dual Diagnosis Task Force to address the complex mental health needs of residents.
